Just a heads up for anyone thinking about selling Cuban coins on ebay, apparently it's not allowed. Even though the coins I was trying to post were made pre-communism, they were still blocked. I was given the following warning message, which I will copy-paste here: ----- Listings for stamps, coins or paper money from Cuba are not permitted. ebay's policy prohibits the sale of most items that originate from Cuba due to sanctions enforced by the U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC). If you list such an item in violation of this policy, we will remove the item and may prohibit you from further use of our services. More information on the specific items covered by the sanctions related to Cuba can be found here: http://www.treasury.gov/resource-ce...es/cuba.aspxeBay's policy on Embargoed Goods and Prohibited Countries can be found here: http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/embargo.html----- Also worth noting is that these countries also appear to be on ebay's blocked list at this time: Iran North Korea Syria ...I was wondering why searching "Cuba coin" on ebay returned about three results! Guess i'll just hold onto these until diplomatic relations improve, oh well.

It has been in place for a while. Perhaps the way how it's going, maybe Chinese coins will be next. That may be better - counterfeiters will have one less market to deal with!

That seems kind of foolish. I could see if the seller is in one of these countries but to ban the sale of them outright is just plain silly.

Basically they don't want to deal with trying to figure out what is and isn't allowed so they just banned everything

Utterly silly. Possibly just a left over from the past. I thought all the Cuba ban stuff was lifted some time ago.

Interestingly, I saw a recent seller of postage stamps on ebay advertising them as stamps from "a Caribbean country famous for its cigars"!! No mention of Cuba in the ad. but all the stamps were from that country.

Interesting Dorado. I wonder why he was able to post his and the OP wasn't allowed to.

Dorado's link is from Canada -- the embargo link in Johnathan55's post is from the US site. You might be able to buy it from the Canada site. On the other hand, I had some books listed on Amazon a while back that a prospective buyer in Canada was unable to purchase because of Amazon's enforcement of customs limitations.

I have seen coins listed with the title spelled '(uba' that have sailed through uncontested.

Yes, it's a simple word-detection filter that blocks you. Call them "cuba" (lowercase C), "Kuba", "{uba" or "the large island south of Florida" and your listing won't be auto-blocked - but it might get reported, which would probably get you NARUed. As far as I am aware, the ban is (theoretically) on ebay worldwide. Canadians, Australians and citizens of other countries that don't have a diplomatic problem with Cuba (which is most countries in the world, actually) can't sell Cuban coins on ebay either.

Made me look, Sap. The Cuba embargo is on the .ca support page as well. The .au site has this: "Because ebay.com.au is a subsidiary of a US company, US government trading restrictions apply when using this site." Strange that the lower case version gets through their filter. That would have been one of the first things I'd test.

A year or two ago, I bought a bunch of neat-looking older Cuba bills from ebay. There are quite a few out there just not using "Cuba" anywhere. Some say "Cu" or "Cub", others just don't mention it at all.
