Hello all,

I was looking to sell this 8 reales amongst other coins, but wanted to make sure I described it correctly as I suspect it may be a contemporary counterfeit. In particular, the odd greyish corrosion like residue on the reverse and spidery lettering on the reverse seem odd. Any of those knowledgeable with this series able to give any advice? Pictures of edge and weight will follow shortly.

Denticles look not uniform like they should be. Something the counterfeiters had problems getting right...Also the edge looks too flat on parenthesis, should be sharper. And no dots between them either.
From swamperbob's never ending knowledge, the edge is the first thing to look at on forgeries. Would like to see him comment, but haven't seen anything from him lately.

Thanks for that. I think I will list it as a contemporary counterfeit - I always thought something was a bit crude and off about it.
