I have to admit that my historical knowledge of the stamp act is severely lacking so I'm not sure what the purpose of this little bill is. Also sorry if this was not supposed to be posted here but figure maybe it should as it has the right year and was counted as 10 cents.

hope you all find it as interesting as I do.

It is fractional currency, used during the Civil War because of coin hoarding.

Any way of getting a closer shot or scan of the note? Some of these have been known to be counterfeit

I wish I could improve the photos in some way but I am no expert at photographing coins and bills yet. I just started this week. also, I have no scanner so that makes it a little more difficult. IS there something I should be looking for that will definitively prove or disprove counterfeiting?

The old posting was very interesting too. I'm going to try to take a few better shots of the face and the lettering but I can see just from bare eye view that the writing and stuff look ok. who knows though as I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination since this is the first one of these I have ever actually seen.
Rest in Peace

This is the right place, even if you are an expert. This is where the experts meet to hash it out.

I've seen threads over the way the end of an 's' flips. And, at times, it determines whether a coin is worth a few hundred dollars or a few thousand.

And you are well on your way to 50 posts which will let you buy and sell here. Congratulations!

Wow! I think I might hate to have a coin that had some kind of tiny detail that made it worth thousands because I'm very sure I would miss it. That's one of those things that keeps me up at night. when it says large nines or small nines and I just can' see the difference. So I'm thinking I will spend a lot of time on here just posting pictures and hoping for good answers. I think the only thing I've noticed is that people often think my coins are cleaned and see hairlines where I don't see them. Taking pictures in the flips is killer but taking them out is a possible problem too. It's almost like coins/currency can turn into a full time job.

Ok, this is what I have for value:

10 Cent Note, 2nd issue. No surcharge lettering on reverse, VG value of $20.00. This has a chance at VG I think.

thanks I will just write everything you just said on it's holder since you sound like you know what you're talking about. Before this I was calling it a paper 10 cents. LOL

thanks again
