I recently learned what a chop mark was, and until I did, I assumed that the symbol in the middle of the reverse of my 7.2 candareens from the Hupeh Province was a weird counterstamp. It looks to just be a smaller version of the symbol next to it, but I really don't know what symbols were used on silver coins to mark them. How do you tell the different between a counterstamp and chop mark when it comes to Chinese silver, and which applies to my coin?
