Yes, I did a study about 15 years ago on ebay coins about a month apart, 100 coins each -- and it was about 50:50 on inverted S mint marks.

They do not bring a premium, but are cool:

I just did a search and there are over 500 1909 S listings at present. I just looked at the first 25 - all Fine or below - and 2 I couldn't tell due to wear, and of the remaining 23, 9 were inverted and 14 upright. So, not a 50:50 based on that small sample, but still...not a rarity.
