I found this dime a week ago while metal detecting in the Nevada desert, around an old fort that has been completely gone since 1875. Can anyone give me an idea of the grade and value?

A buddy told me there is a difference between an arrowed Half Dime and one without arrows? It is certainly smaller than the pictures might show...I was surprised when I found it and mroe surprised when I realized it was a coin...I have found a few old coins but this one is the best one yet...

A. Don't rub it any more.

B. An 1853-O no arrows Half Dime, even dug, in that condition is a great find. I guesstimate the condition in the XF range. If it were mine, I would consider sending it to ANACS for grading/authentication.

C. Value: I'm guesstimating again, but I'd say it would be worth $1200-1800 if properly graded and authenticated.

That gouge to the left of the mintmark and below the I is going to keep it out of pcgs or ngc plastic and significantly lower the value. I would call it damaged with a net grade in the vf range. Still, a very cool find!
Rest in Peace

Nice find! I'm very jealous, yours is a lot better than mine. And it is genuine, I see both of the normal diagnostic features.

Half dime. The very weak date. Even Uncs will often show very little of the 18. te date gets stronger as you go up and to the right. On the reverse the mintmark is repunched at the top left
