1973 LMC Mintmark Error?

Nope. It's not an error. It's Post Strike Damage (happened after it left the U.S. Mint). You can see the pushed over, scratched and flattened metal.

In the 70's the mint(Frisco) had numerous punches used for their mintmarks. A few had damaged portions, as this with the lower post broken off. Later on (1979). The D was/known as "the dot) was just a blob, and proof coins had the "closed S" and "clear S" used and are considered type coins for a collector's sets!
