Hi All

Im an Aussie with a middle eastern background who has recently inherited a bunch of coins from my grandfather following his passing.

Never was interested in the stuff but I have to admit lately its slowly growing on me. So a quick google search led me here.

In terms of interest given that my heritage is from Syria I have been looking at coins from that region. I will eventually post what I have but just wanted to say hello :-)

Shazzam: to the CCF

I am from Sydney as well; Blacktown area, to be more precise.

Coins of the Umayyad Caliphate (661-750 AD) circulated in the area of Syria.
They are fairly easy to obtain from coin dealers such as Noble Numismatics in Macquarie Street.

A silver Dirham of the Umayyad Caliphate can be bought for around $30, which is quite a reasonable price for a Syrian coin of such antiquity, and relevant to your heritage.
