Hello,

I'm really pleased to join this site and to learn more about my new found love of coin collecting.

I started collecting British coins a few years ago. Circulation ones and initially specific to the 2012 London Olympics. I moved onto bullion more recently. I note from some posts that there are some opinions that collecting silver bullion (Eagles and Britannia etc.) isn't strictly numismatics. I'd be interested in learning more about the distinction. I've really worked hard to build my collection by going to bullion dealers around the country and making sensible bids etc on ebay and now have a fair amount of 1oz and 2oz coins.

I'm not collecting old rare coins so I guess I'm answering my own question, but please do let me know and thanks in advance!!

Also, don't suppose there are any good online shops that don't overdo the premiums? I know it's cheaper to buy in bulk but I don't want bulk; I'm a perculiar person that just needs one of a specific year etc.!

Finally, and sorry for the many questions, but could anyone recommend a decent insurer as the collection has grown recently and there are few safety deposit boxes in London that are reasonable in price at the size I need.

Thank you!!

Andrew.

Hi Andrew
I like yourself are a new member and very green at this lol.
I thought I would shoot you a quick question seeings you collect British coins.
I have a 1807 Britannia Penny and wondering if you have ever come across one and know if it is one to hang onto?
TIA

Hello, and thanks for the welcome. Welcome to you too. I'm sorry but I can't even begin to answer the question about the penny. I'd be interested to know more about this and I guess this goes to my earlier point about wanting to learn!!
This isn't about making money for me, but about collecting something beautiful and having a good time doing so.
I do have a lot of pennies but they're all post 1860 and the result of some daft impulse buys on ebay! I'm still learning!!

Andrew: to the CCF !

By way of coincidence, you share the same name as my son.

He has a complete type type set of English / British shillings Charles 11 Elizabeth 11, except the Northumberland Shilling, and the Dorien & Magens Shilling. F-Unc.
