Hi guys, just wanted to verify the doubling on this 1804 Half Cent is Machine Doubling. I've always thought it was but the more I look at it the more I wonder if the underlining date has some definition..

Yes they were screw presses. Screw presses were used until 1836.

Sure, in fact in the presses they had back then it is more likely. By the late 1820' early thirties the old presses had become so worn and "loose" that it wasn't unusual and fittings had to be frequently tightened to prevent it's occurrence.
