How would I be able to tell if I have a genuine coin or a fake? I was going through some old change and found one that I feel would be rare but someone said it might be fake.

First of all

It looks to me like someone has put glue
or some other substance on the coin and
pressed another coin into it.
Try soaking it in acetone to see if it
comes off.
In any case, it is not an error, it was done
after it left the mint.

We've all been fooled by the old glue trick. No need to apologize.
