Very nice find and "Spiked Head" Die Crack! If you want to make your coin better before you send the pictures to JC Stevens, you can give it a soak in Acetone for 4 hours.

Oh okay. You can do it later if you wanted to. It's optional. :)

That is a very nice find. I think kinda like the designation "Spike Head".

Are spike heads considered collectible in the Coin World? It seems that almost anyone including a new hobbyist like myself can easily find them. (I've found a couple in my penny stash). So just wondering why it's so great to send pics? Do they have value? Just trying to get information on them, not being a smart pants!

They're considered collectable, to those who collect "Spiked Heads". Cuds-On-Coin.com catalogs these for learning purposes. The value depends on what people are willing to pay for it and also depends if there's any interest for it.

Quote:Are spike heads considered collectible in the Coin World? The answer is up to you. They are a true Mint error being a die crack, but their location is random and therefore their qualifying as a "Spike Head". They do not command much, if any, of a premium value. But, people collect what they like and not just what is valuable. So, if you like it, keep it. That's as simple as it gets.

Spruett is correct, but they're still very fun to collect and find. It's your choice to keep them or not. I collect them and keep them, since they're very cool to look at.
