I'm sure it's got some luster in hand, but isn't captured in the pictures. To me it looks like it'd be a red brown. But remember that grading is an opinion. ICCS is known for having less of a "red" standard than PCGS, and so you see PCGS red cents go for more than what ICCS would call a red cent. I suppose when they graded the coin, they saw it as a red.

Also, it could have browned post-grading if not stored well.

I believe that as far as ICCS goes, they grade coins off of rarity as well. So a coin that would normally be a R&B can squeeze into a Red.

the coin is a different color in hand..it is more of a wine red toned piece but not exactly what one would call either blazing red or a brown coin. I've held this piece in hand..

i'll also note this coin was in the hands of ICCS for grading as a regular piece and got red, then again got the ok for red when resubmitted for variety attribution.

I know ICCS has their fans, but I'm not one of them.

I learned a long time ago you can never really claim "FINEST KNOWN"...as almost always someone will have a finer one hiding somewhere :)...

My old boss used to tell me Jimmy never say your the best, because the person you are telling this to might think they are the best. He told always say your one of the best two that leaves room for argument.
I think it applies to many things Happy hunting

That's about as far from red as I've seen. Maybe it was red back in the 1970's or 80's when it may have been graded ... and before the air got to it.
