Hey Bate! The 70S, here's a lesson. Look at the date, see the same direction of the event happening? When this occurs on bothe date and mintmark, it is 99.99% of the time MD. It is also shelf-like in appearance with a slight reduction in overall size. Get back in a minute on 85D.

Wow! Think you found one!

The 1970 D is not an RPM. It's Machine Doubling. See how the devices are reduced in size and how it's shelflike in appearance? On the 1985 D, that's nothing more than Split Plate Doubling.

Both are not rpms. Actually is split plating. You can even see where the plating is curling from the zinc popping through

See what I mean? Looks strikingly similar to an rpm, but RPMs don't mess with plating

Here is another trick. Keep an envelope on your computer desk. Place the envelope on the screen on the bottoms of the tails of the 9 & 5 and see where the mint mark location is in relation to the envelope. Now do the same thing on the coppercoins image. Did you note that the space under the one image is wider than the other image? That shows you that they are not in the same locations. Thus they are not from the same dies. When they get so close you can't tell then you have go to the next level of side by sides or overlays. But the envelope test usually tells you if it is close or not. If not, then it is not from that die.

Also the gray color (zinc under the plating) is another clue that it is split plating.

Die markers only count on Variety coins. If the variety is not present, the marker means nothing.

I agree that it is not a RPM. Looks like a plating issue and the mintmark location does not match 1MM-001.

The "die markers" you posted do not match. The die gouge in the O is not in the right spot and that's a contact mark above the T.

See, Very close, but no cigar! And with all due respect bates, Learning is not taking the first answer you see right. Learning is keeping an open mind, or At least it is with this hobby.
CrazyB0 Is one of my favorite guys here and is VERY knowledgeable, and usually right most of the time, But not everyone is perfect and sometimes it takes many eyes and opinions before the right answer is found (EVEN with the experts this happens, like the Wavy steps that was told to everyone was a doubled die, when they weren't. Or the 1973 D Reverse die anomaly that a lot of people swear by their death bed is a die clash, while others think its something else)

Best way to learn with this hobby is to keep that open mind!
As you can tell this is not the easiest hobby to pick up, but with time, and an open mind, you shall prevail!

Im actually kind of glad that crazyb0 got it wrong, so you can learn the hard way as to what happens with this hobby!
Please take this with a grain of salt, for once you have the mountain, you will then get the bigger picture.

I am a open minded person. The meaning of Discussion is getting all the opinions. If I just keeping nodded yes I won't hear anything different. We have to have objections in order to close it. LOL..but the end of the day we are all happy cause we learn something new. I love this group and I am happy to be here to learn. Thanks again for all of you guys kindness. But look at the two images above with the black lines on them. Do the sizes of the date devices look the same? The image was crunched to make it appear the same. The locations are totally different. When I create side by sides, the first thing I line up is the dates. Widths first. Then height. When these two are a match, then check for mint mark locations. The images are not a match is the standard, the date is altered. What your are looking for is a match, not a sorta fit situation. If it's not a match, then they are not from the same die. Move on to the next coin.
