Looking for help identifying the value of this coin. Found images of it in an auction online and want to be sure of its value.

That same coin sold for $6,250 (not including the buyer's fee) in 2005.

I actually have one, of this exact coin a little more faded (might just need to be cleaned up). Did it actually go for $6250 or was that for a lot of coins?

Does anyone know why this coin is of more value than others?

It all comes down to demand, and that is driven primarily by condition, eye-appeal, subject matter, and rarity. According to the CNG write-up, this is only 1 of 3 known for the magistrate. It also has a lovely portrait, which as a Roman collector always makes me jealous of the Greeks.

That said, before you get too excited you need to determine authenticity. As a new poster to this forum you may not be aware that fakes plague the hobby, especially for the higher end stuff. Some are easily detectable as fakes often sold to tourists as souvenirs, but others are so well done that it takes specific expertise to determine authenticity.

I would begin by taking your coin to your local coin shop handling ancients, or alternatively you can post large and well-lit pictures of your coin on this forum for our experts to review and provide opinions on.
