Ok pro's I have quite a few pennies like this one , wondering what causes the blacking of the penny? Plus looks to me like the Indains might of gave Abe a mohawk.. Just kidding . Any info on this coin would be appreciated.
That is just crud. Grease, hand oils, dirt you name it. It adheres to the less touched areas on the coin. Deep circulation scratch would give it a details grade(bad news). It is circulated, G-08, Details, damaged would be a formal grade.
If you were to try to clean with acetone I'm afraid the gunk would come off some but leave a two-toned ugly mess, best leave it alone. It is a medium-hard date to generally come across in searching for.
