This obviously cleaned 100 year old penny stood out in the bunch because it was so clean and shiny. When taking a closer look, I saw what I think are die breaks on the reverse. On each side of the M in America, there are markings. Made me giggle, in my mind I heard a redneck yelling 'Merica! Please chime in :)

They looks like chips or cracks on that area. No premium them. Keep in mind that this is the first year that the VDB appeared on the shoulder. So that has been there ever since. 101 years of it. So have you ever wondered why everything else on the coin has worn off, but the VDB hasn't? (Because it is incuse)

Thanks Coop! That is fascinating, I had never noticed it was incuse. I'm not that interested in the premium, I just get excited when I find something. I like finding errors, I'm just not so good at identifying what kind they are LOL. Thanks for the help :)

Next question. How does incuse devices get on the coins? Dies a negative of the coin. If something is raised on a coin, they are incuse (sunken) into the die. Thus the raised devices on the coin is incuse on the die. So if something is incuse on the coin, then it is raised on the die.
