Trying to decide whether to bid on this quarter. It's a beautiful example, but do you think the scratches near the eagle's head are enough to detail this coin?

looks f12. although TPG might slide it through, it is more likely to be holdered as details scratched imho.

Intentional scratches, not random, and would be deemed graffiti.

When you start getting into that price range I'd suggest an NGC or PCGS in the grade you like and be much more certain about what you are getting.

In my opinion, this would get a details grade because of the graffiti. I agree with Mox about them being intentional.

Thanks for your thoughts. It's a close call, but I was also leaning towards details because they do look intentional. Probably why it's being sold raw... I guess I'll pass, even though I really like that circ cameo look.

Exactly what I was thinking. The stray marks on the obverse, like to the left of Liberty, would be in line with what you would see from natural wear. But the reverse markings definitely look intentional and would likely merit a Details grade for "Graffiti".
