I started really looking through my change about 4 months ago, and have a few coins that I need direction on, I am definately in the beginning stages of becoming a collector, but enjoy looking at the beautiful variants of this coin. Please take a gander @ this coin and tell me what you think. There is a lot going on so I will post good clear zoomed photos for everyone. Thanks in advance!
To CCF! Unfortunately, this isn't an error. This is Post Strike Damage (happened after it left the U.S. Mint). This is called Zinc Rot. It happens when the Copper plating breaks, causing the Zinc core to get exposed. Over time, air reaches to the Zinc, causing the Zinc to slowly rot and break down. As we know, Zinc isn't tough material.
