How-Dare-You-Let-My-Country-Tax-Me! I paid $ 30 shipping, and when I received the product, I still paid $ 40 customs

Unbelievable. Seller is no prize but this buyer deserves a BIG FAT NEGATIVE every which way till Tuesday for being a moron. But can't warn anyone, oh well.

G'day, I think I need a bit more context to evaluate the above.
I often buy coins from overseas.
A couple of times, Australian Customs open and reseal my mail: they use distinctive tape to re-seal the envelope. I've never been charged duty, nor anything else.
I've heard it said that some carriers (not the Post Office) charge a fee to negotiate an item through Customs, but that's not paid TO Customs, it's paid to the carrier, even 'though the result of the process is that no Customs duty is chargeable.
Just another rip-off. The Post Office is hassle-free.
I'm wondering if that's where your $40 went ?
Also, $30 is a lot of shipping ...

not sure where you are from but it says the shipping charges on the item is $19.00 and it also says in his shipping terms that "Sorry, we do not ship to international destinations." but he does ship to Canada but I don't know why the shipping jump from $19.00 to $30.00 to Canada would be appropriate. Please give us more information on this so we can come up with a conclusion on what may have happened here like where you live (What Country etc.) and what his reason was for the price jump in shipping. I am not sure what the shipper has to do with anything concerning the "your country taxing you" unless he filled out the papers wrong or something so like I said more information is really needed so we can find out what the shipper had to do with your country charging you to have something make it through customs

Seems he does ship overseas from the feedback and does increase shipping charges, I see a pattern- maybe the seller should change the shipping terms in his listings and better describe them, just a thought.

Canada charged the buyer $30 tax on the item and the buyer negged the seller for it.

So the buyer sent the seller a neg because of the taxes his own country imposed on him.

I still paid $ 40 customs < Canada tax
UPS brokerage is expensive < Not UPS, Canada tax paid through UPS
Demanded extra for shipping < Probably not the seller, but Canada tax
seller could find a way to limit cost of customs for canadian buyers < only possible by breaking Federal Law and lying on customs form
extra shipping charges added after the auctions was over. > probably Canada tax again, not seller
I still paid $ 23 customs > Canada tax, not the seller.

Ridiculous and there's nothing now that the seller can do about it. These buyers can still leave negs because of their country's tax with no repercussions. Lovely.

Canada is very strict.

I wouldve contacted ebay and ask that the feedback be removed as unfair...custom charges are out of our control

I agree, there was nothing the seller could do about the custom tax except break the law and fill out the papers with bogus information which sounds like they thought the seller should do to save them some money but that is just unfair to expect someone to do what ever they can to save you money even if it means breaking the law. I would also see if ebay would remove these negative feedbacks
