Paul, dates on these coins give me a great deal of trouble reading. Going by the style of the coin it's a later strike and I would say within his last year or two of his reign. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, this is a type I've been putting a lot of effort trying to learn.

Thanks Ron!

Have now checked out all the references I know of and approx 15 sold coin lots of auctions of year 37 and now I'm certain this is a year 37 coin AD 628 his last year of reign..

You don't see this mintmark come up too often so I'm really pleased I picked this one up at a snip!

Paul, the SK mint mark is scarce, you were lucky to find this one. The details on this coin are stunning. The purity of silver can be as high as 99% on his coins. I'm sure you are correct on the date.

Thanks for spending some time looking Ron really appreciated to have a second pair of eyes...
Here's a better picture and as you know from the portrait style it's definetly from his later years of reign. This helps as there are only three years that are similar enough in style...As you said year 33(syesyh)..year 35(pnesyh) and year 37(hptsyh)...
I still think it's year 37 how about you?

Paul, thanks for the better pictures, I can see where I missed the character that looks like a "P" but with the better pictures I see it now. In which case I would agree that it's year 37.

Here are a pair of very useful guides, originally created by the late Tom Mallon for his 'Coins and History of Asia' website (http://grifterrec.rasmir.com/coins.html).

Thanks Ron!
I aswell thought it might be 33 until I recognised the P shape form (t) next to the syh.....
@kushanshah thanks for the links they are the ones I used along with beastcoins and zeno amongst others...But in answer to my original question do you think the date is correct?

It really is worthwhile being able to read the dates as so many I've seen have been miss attributed .

The t of hpt ("seven") is squished but 37 seems right. I can't make an argument in my mind for any other date.
