I found a coin on ebay /w this verification # but I don't think the coin can get MS60. I believe the slab is fake. I checked the NGC database, no image. It means anyone can put a cheap/fake coin in a fake slab with the same slab # and sell it on ebay. Why some coins on NGC database don't have picture?

You could be right, but I thought you had to pay extra for a picture in there database, I could be wrong.

The description of the coin should be there tho.

TheBurnz-
You don't have to pay for the picture.
This is part of their sevice so anyone can check for counterfeits.

silverai-
Do you have a link to the ebay listing?
If no picture, the holder is most likely a fake and possibly the coin.

These holders are readily obtainable and not unusual for someone to make
their own insert to put in the holder. I have seen this numerous times.
Sometimes they will try to sell a counterfeit by listing it as graded and
other times try to upgrade a genuine coin by putting it in a fake holder.

They've only done pictures for a few years. More than likely it was graded before they did pictures

NGC has been around for 31 years, they have only been putting pictures in the database for about ten years. So they means 20 years worth of slabs that do not have pictures.

NGC style holders are NOT readily obtainable. There are counterfeiters in China that have made fake NGC holders but they don't seem to be a prevalent and fake PCGS holders. As far as I know the counterfeiters have not made the fake NGC and PCGS shells available on the open market.

basebal21 & Conder101, you are both right.
I found the listing in question oneBay and it is in an older
style slab holder so it was probably graded before NGC started
using photos.

As far as fake NGC holders and coins go, I have reported them
to ebay in the past. Here is a photo from a listing I reported
last year. Notice how the label has been cropped off the bottom.
Why-Some-Coins-On-NGC-Database-Don't-Have-Picture?

All a counterfeiter needs are some slab holders, counterfeit coins, and a printer and he is in business.
The slabs don't have to be perfect, only good enough to fool one person.
I picked the photo below at random to show just one of the many slabs for sale on the internet.
They come in various sizes and colour inserts.

Anyone with the least modicum of detail awareness and/ or experience can be taught to distinguish fake slabs from real in perhaps two minutes.

See YouTube examples that determine specific comparisons for both PCGS and NGC in all past types to attempted counterfeit holders.

Thanks silverai-
The coin and holder both look legit.
As stated earlier the reason there is no picture is that it
is was graded before they started putting photos on their website.

I agree and the same can be said for fake gold bars but it is the people who lack this
awareness and are usually more interested in "getting a deal" that these counterfeiters prey on.

It also applies to new collectors or people who blindly trust the ebay rating system. A 100% positive feedback seller with a lot of transactions doesn't mean all of their coins are real. ebay report system is also useless, they don't really care!
