How bad is the depreciation - based on the deep gouge across the eagles breast- its seen better days but I have other worse/ worn morgans then this one- (one 1884S you can barely read the date!)

Hi Chuckster,
The 1884-S is basically a commmon-date Morgan in grades up to VF. The price starts to climb in EF, takes off in AU, and goes nuts at the Mint State Line (MS-60).

I'd grade your coin about VF-30. If undamaged, it is a $20 or $25 coin. With that big groove I'd consider it to be a "junk" Morgan dollar, valued at maybe $16.

Jaobler:

Thanks for your honest opinion- appreciate it!

I'm thinking along the same lines- too big of a gouge and in the "FIELD" of view- at least its worth the silver content. :)
