It's up to the seller, but international shipping with insurance and tracking is pretty expensive. Relatively.

They have a pricing calculator, but a quick play with is seems to show a bubble envelope with a 2x2 in it worth up to 1000 pounds and signature required is 82 pounds.

Royal Mail International Tracked & Signed with a value up to 50 pounds is 6.35

If you are buying from outside the U.S. Canada and the UK are most reliable.

Are you buying it through ebay? Some UK sellers are incredibly obstinate and insist on ebay's international shipping program, which is highly reliable but costs around 12 pounds per item with no combined shipping. Others stoically refuse to do any kind of shipping adjustments and feel like the shipping cost is completely out of their hands.

But most British sellers will post through regular, unregistered mail for 3-5 pounds if you ask them for that method. There's always a risk but it's perfectly fine for things that aren't particularly valuable. Over the past few months, I've bought a whole bunch of things from the UK with this shipping and I don't think I've had any incidents.

Since I'm into world coins, I buy a lot from overseas. I've never had a problem, except for one seller and that really was my bad for not researching that... person. Just make sure to look at the shipping costs and if you don't like it, move on. Chances are that you'll be able to get what you're looking for at a reasonable cost if you're patient.
