I went to a local auction (bunch of stuff), but 40 lots of coins. I bought two lots of silver quarters, one Barber lot (qty=9) for $2.78/coin and one Washington lot (qty=13)for $2.69/coin. Always nice to get in under melt.

I also bought a IHC folder, which had an 1857 Flying Eagle, plus others. Not done tabulating, but I think I made out pretty well there, too.

It's odd, because some stuff goes way over market, like a 1892 Columbian Half dollar for $25!.

I always enjoy good scores, even if they aren't mine. It proves nice buys are still out there.
Rest in Peace

I always check out local estate auctions just for 5that reason. Most "non-collectors" jump big on big silvers, but smaller items and foreign coins are overlooked. Got my best scores from mixed lots of "junk" mixes and old folders. Coins sometimes are out of place, found key dated in common holes... rare type coins at times. And if Mr. Deep Pockets doesn't show up, may get some nice silver at reasonable prices.

Auctions have always been pretty barren of good deals for me. Last week I was at a sale where a 1826 Capped Bust Half in VG sold for over $200. Apparently two bidders just really wanted it and price guides went out the window.

Looks like you did great. I've never had any luck at auctions. Usually around me they are full of people paid to bid to raise the prices of items. I'll stick to coin shows.

Love local auctions. Only about 10-20% have some ok deals, but still love going. Not too long ago, got 4 2010 ATB 5 oz pucks for $109 each, so deals are still to be found. :) Congrats on the nice pickups!
