Trying for my first attempt to upload a picture of a Sacagawea dollar with error strike. I have a curious question fro anyone to rely to, is this worthy enough to be considered collectible? *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***

Looks like a scratch or ding to me.

Thank you jack jeckel for your response. I posted the picture in relation to the "wounded eagle" Sacagawea version of what is now a collectors item to have. I have searched many of the same only to find no other imperfection such as this issue, yet! I thought it may be a hubbed in debris scratch but this is very heavily accented. Please know I am appreciative of your insight.

I don't see an error, I see post strike damage to the rim and the horse closest to the rim.

Not an error. It's Post Strike Damage (happened after it left the U.S. Mint). The metal has been pushed over and flattened.

I appreciate the views rendered on this coin. Now I am asking how this is considered a post strike when the mark is only identifiable by magnifying the coin? I purchased it just for the marking, but I am here to learn. Teach me what you know. Glad I didn't give but two bucks for it.

I'm not sure I understand your question, there are an infinite amount of ways a coin can get damaged, both visible to the naked eye and also only visible when magnified. It really only depends on the size and placement of the damage.

On PSD on a coin the mark will be incuse, but will show metal movement on the areas next to the incuse mark. Note on your coin you can see this. On a struck through error because it happens during the strike, the metal and item struck through are contained by the dies. So PSD happens after the strike. Struck throughs duting the strike. The wounded eagle is possibly die damage. So the same mark will occur on each strike in the same area. Hope this helps?

Coop, thanks so much for the lesson on PSD's. I can fully understand this a lot better. Your pictures were a big help
