Has anyone else come across an error like this one on a 2005 D Nickel? An extra zero near Jefferson's chin and some fading on the lettering, particularly on "Liberty".

Any ideas to it's possible worth/value?

The Liberty and the last part of the date appear to be caused by a Grease Filled Die. The extra 0 looks recessed, that could mean the impression is from another coin or by someone counter stamping it.

To CCF! I think you have a Dropped-Letter error, caused by hardened grease falling out from the dies crevices. Also, your coin was also Struck Through Grease as well. http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis...ticleId=5974

Edit: I'll send an email to Mike Diamond (our coin expert), so he can confirm this for sure.

I think that you can even see where the grease plug came from as well. I think it came from the 2nd "0" of "2005".

It's an authentic dropped filling, specifically a dropped number 0. Nice find.

Wahoo! I knew it! SilverAnt, Mike Diamond has spoken and has confirmed the Dropped-Letter error that I was suspecting. Very nice find and congratulations! Get this thing in a 2x2 as soon as possible!

Anyone care to guess about the odds of this kind of error? 1 in 10M? More?

Not sure to be exact SliverAnt, but I heard it's a pretty rare type of error though. http://www.numismaster.com/ta/numis...ticleId=5974
