Picked up this 1964 Mint set, all original packaging. Rec'd today and started looking at the coins within. I did not get past the Denver Kennedy half before seeing this.

I'm not a Kennedy collector and spent too much time trying to find something on it involving the nose but could not.

The nose tip appears to be broke off. Any ideas? Also the tip of the chin appears clipped off.

That's Post Strike Damage on Kennedy's nose. It probably happened when it got dropped in with other coins in the hopper.

You're very welcome! Surprisingly, Post Strike Damage can actually happen inside the U.S. Mint.

Rest in Peace

I'm with E&V that it is most likely damage from coins colliding after the strike.

Does the line formed between the nose and chin match the arc of a Kennedy?

Spruett-
I am unfamiliar with ascertaining that, how would I make that determination? What arch and line?

I guess the best way to ask is: if you take a loose Kennedy and lay its rim over the damage on the nose and chin, does it line up? I'm thinking the coin in cello fell face first into another newly minted coin's rim.

Finally found a loose Kennedy.

Spuett - I think you hit it on the head, so to speak. Appears the marks on the 64 D Kenneday nose and chin match the curvature of another Kennedy rim.

Thanks for the pic! Coin contact after the strike seems like the most likely cause.
