Ok just for fun how was the incuse dent made over the D. I can see how the punch worked on the reverse but not sure how any shape of punch could make the incuse area around the D but leave the D in place.

Most likely a gas bubble under the MM that broke and sunk the MM.

So if a gas mark, the same on the reverse? And not sure how the corrosive would do it and leave a fully round spot like on the reverse. Just interesting to me. Thanks gents.

Just Zinc Rot unfortunately, from the Zinc core getting exposed. It's Post Strike Damage. Nothing special here.

Oh yeah David - never thought about it but those could be examples of zinc gas bubbles bursting under the copper plating! Good call. And ain't that some crap that zinc is actually poisonous to us! Go figure
