Found something I thought was a good find Then researched incused lettering and came across this http://numismaster.com/ta/numis/Art...icleId=17345 Interesting article. ..all of West Virginia date and epu has the same outer doubling look, all towards the rim.
Guess I'll be no help. I just cannot see the incuse on those pix of Coop's, looks raised to me. My eyesight must be shot, can't see it at all. Had been having trouble seeing it before, now, just don't any more. Have at it guys, count me out!
Mr Potter is a member here, you may want to PM him. The pics coop posted has more of a "stretched" look to them and your doesn't. Yours does not look like a doubled die either, more like MD because of the "flattish" look to it. John1
The stretched look is from the edge of the die leaving metal striation marks. On his coin the the edge of the die didn't touch the coin, but the same result. The doubling from die movement from the Machine Doubling altered this before or after the strike. 70% of the ATB Quarter have some to extreme amounts of MD. I check 100 random ATB Quarters and came up with the figure. Someone else did the same check and came up with the same percentage numbers.
