Found this yesterday. I was curious if anyone could tell me what might have happened to it?

to CCF!

Who knows for sure but appears to be environmental damage, occurred after it left the Mint, PMD (post mint damage), chemical and physical damage.

Yeah... I didn't figure it could have happened at the mint. But whatever smashed it did it where all of the elements of the coin stayed intact. Plus, it looked pretty neat. Lol. I've put a penny on the tracks as a kid, and it didn't look like that when it was hit. This one was smashed in the middle, and pushed everything out towards the sides. Kind of different.

I've pulled a few like that out of my campfire pit and used them at the local store.

It looks like a Texas Cent to me. It's definitely Post Strike Damage (it happened after it left the U.S. Mint).

Can somebody explain Texas Cent? I see that it appears larger. A Google search didn't give me much info.

A Texas Cent is when someone puts a coin in-between two pieces of leather and smack it with a hammer, causing the coin to expand in size like a pancake.

You're very welcome! It's Post Strike Damage, but a cool form of it. It's your decision to keep it or not.
