Need thoughts of the "S" of "CENTS" in the obverse of this 1997-D Jefferson nickel. Any opinions would be appreciated and thanks for taking a look.

I would think that it is Die Deterioration Doubling, a worn out die. I've seen a few of these, hope this helps.

That's Die Deterioration from a worn die (die wear).

Now didn't ya'll say Die Deterioration made images of the devices move TOWARDS the rim? Now these are NOT towards the rim but still look like Die Deterioration Doubling! RIGHT? Maybe a combo of deterioration as seen by the metal movement BUT also some push doubling also? Well?

Well Mark. It's not like the die is fresh etheir. The OP's coin definitely has some Die Deterioration going on.
