A couple seeks ago Clyde (shop owner) asked me if I wanted his copy of "The Numismatist" so I took it home for perusal. The cover has "Peg Leg"
Eisenhower dollars on it.The variety is identified by the lack of a serif on the back leg of the "R" in LIBERTY, it is straight. I do not actively collect Ikes, but they are hard to get outside of the shop, and I try to learn whenever I can. Spotting these and other varieties has become sort of my specialty at the shop. The next time I went to the shop I looked through all the brown box 71 proofs and the Unc blue Ikes. I did find a 71 proof Peg Leg, I posted that one in the main forum. No Unc Peg Leg's , of course those are much more scarce .
So now I am on the lookout for the Peg Leg's, and I thought I had a 72 Peg Leg...Turns out all the 72's are Peg Leg's. The last customer on Saturday afternoon sold some coins, one of them was a 72-S silver proof Ike in a 2x2. I do not do the buying so I did not see it until a bit later. At the time I did not know a Peg Leg 72 was no big deal, so when I saw it I thought I had something. As it turns out, I had something anyway ! Peg Leg aside, when I put it under the scope- I saw something even better...A
DDO. No way to spot this without magnification, especially since the coin appears to have been stored less than perfectly , spotty toning and hazing. Not unusual , but at least in the OGP they usually toned /hazed from the rim to the center ! Check into your 71 blue Ikes fellow collector's, they have a really good premium on the Peg Legs- CPG lists it at $200 in MS-65, $350 in MS-66. Those might be high, but for a coin that you can get for little jore than melt...Awesome !
And now -the subject of this post...

I could not see any doubling on the reverse, here are some pics...
