Found this in a BU roll today.

The initials on the reverse are almost completely obscured with an extra cactus leaf. That is a scratch between the o and n in canyon.

The obverse has a raised line running from the Q in Quarter across the base of the bust and ends with a blob to the left (edit-right) of the initials. Parts of the wording on the obverse almost looks doubled or perhaps md.

I would like to get some comments from you guys and other views. See anything else that may be of interest? I can edit the pics to zoom in on certain parts if you would like.
Thanks,
Loyal

Hi,

These are things that are a result of a coin being struck by very worn dies.

It is really nothing too out of the ordinary on Arizona quarters. Actually, it has been the practice all through the States Quarter series to use the dies practically to their breaking points.

It is not unusual to see die breaks, die chips and other minor anomalies on any of the States quarters.
Thanks,
Bill

Not extra cactus leaves, just die chips as FIR so eloquently explained
Also, the raised line from the Q across the bottom of the bust to the designer initials is a die crack which is a common weak spot of the obverse die design of Washington quarters since their inception in 1932.

Shoot, I thought I may had found a coin with a large premium. It's not even the extra leaf variety.

Thanks for your comments guys.

That is part of the problem- there is no "extra leaf variety" on the AZ quarters, they are all just die chips with over hyped gimmicky names. These are distinctly different from the "extra leaf" Wisconsin quarters which are die varieties. Die chips and cracks are part of the normal die wearing process and are not considered unusual. The Wisconsin quarter dies had an extra mark added to the die before the first coins were struck with those two dies. The contentious part of this however is the fact that most of the numismatic community now believes these to be intentional varieties that were purposely created.
