Is this one of the copper 1982 pennies or is it the even rarer brass 1982? It has a small date and the metal is very soft like brass.

It looks as if it is a 1982 small date copper cent. Fairly common. The one to look for is the 1982 D small date copper cent.
Rest in Peace

Good question, but that's a common coin in beat to death condition. A spender, unfortunately.

To CCF! Your coin is Copper. Although not worth keeping, because it has been beated to death. It's a spender.

Copper is softer than brass.
Brass is softer than bronze.

It's a common copper coin that has been damaged. Spend it.
