Hello! I was advised to head to this forum for hopefully some additional insight. We recently found the attached coin on an early morning walk along a USVI beach. After some skepticism and a lot of Google searching, we were hoping to get some more experienced opinions! The coin was found along the waterline on a remote part of the beach and was barely visible. We were also the only ones there (I've been told about salted coins, pranks). From our searches, we feel that the markings are comparable to a Seville doubloon - however, it does not (currently) appear to be gold - more like bronze or copper. Diameter is ~31-32mm and weight is ~8 grams. Any thoughts are very much appreciated!

Your coin is the same kind of replica of a Spanish doubloon. Many were made of those in basic material (a real one must be gold)

The overall appearance suggests a copper or bronze alloy, so I agree that it is most likely a replica/copy, although whether it is recent or not is beyond me.

If you wish to make really certain, the coin needs to be properly conserved by a specialist in such things, perhaps a maritime museum or marine archaeologist would be able to advise you there; in the meantime if it was found in salt water keep it in salt water of approximately the same salinity, or, if you have to make it up from scratch, a ratio of approximately 6 parts salt for 200 parts distilled water will approximate the Caribbean in July. On the long-shot that it is not a fake, this will help protect the coin until it can be properly conserved or at least tested for its metal composition using XRF or a similar method.
