TMabry9433,  to the forum. I'm not one of the experts here,but one should be by shortly. In the mean time have a look at VAM-18A http://www.vamworld.com/1880-P%20VAM-18A and see if it's close. BTW.Very good photo's!

I looked at VAM 18 also. To me it doesn't look exact. I'm not sure that the little bit of difference disqualifies it from VAM 18.

I think the difference between the 18 and 18A, is the 18A is the later, "clashed" die state.As is Your coin is.Where as the 18 does not have clashing marks. But again I'm no expert.So we'll wait for one.  Oh yeah,nice coin.

I agree with 5A or possible a late enough strike that the letter transfer has worn away and this one reverts back to the parent VAM-5.
