Say this on an ebay listing, what would you grade it and why?

(it's a trick question to help practice grading skills)

Lack of detail suggest struck from worn dies.

From these pictures, lots of mint luster is still evident, even on caribou's nose, and hair detail above / behind ear.
No detail in the caribou's eye, but some evidence of light abrasion.

There is no difference in luster in the open fields, and the fields between the lettering

You get Melbourne Mint wartime Australian Florins like this (obverse), SF minted coins tend to be better in this regard.

MS63, but worn dies.

Could be re-plated which would explain lack of detail

Details coin
Looks too shiny for a 1937.
Possibly whizzed by looking at the fields.

Need a digital microscope to examine a small area of the coin, to differentiate between whizzed and luster.
The difference between metal flow and scratches can be properly discerned.

It is possible to examine with a 20X gem loupe, but information gained by the viewer cannot be transferred to the screen.

If it has been whizzed it should not be graded, it is just PMD.

No, not whizzed - there would be CLEAR evidence at this magnification. I'm 100% with Sel 69l on this one - a remarkable 63/64 with beautiful fields struck from worn dies. Even a 65 wouldn't surprise me.

So,this is being sold on ebay as Whizzed. From the photos there is some clear abrasion lines and not in a cartwheel arrangement.

The ebay photos are slightly better than what I could upload. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/E32-Canada-...0?nav=SEARCH

I think I agree that it's whizzed, but is a very convincing example.

It's whizzed and I don't really see how others can view it otherwise.

Basic coin identification.

OK, if the seller says it's whizzed, I give up.

Coinfrog - I'm not saying it's whizzed because the seller is saying so.

The seller is the last person I would trust to make an accurate call.

I depend solely on my eyes and this 1937 25c is a textbook example of a whizzed coin.

It's not my intention to sound like a know-it-all, but this coin is very easy to spot as a whizzed coin and if you think otherwise I sincerely suggest some degree of research and education is required on your part.

I have saved many pictures of whizzed coins and I'm going to post them here.

You should see a strong similarity in all of them.

This is a whizzed coin with clear abrasion lines and the letters are also a clear indication of whizzing.

No question in my mind this is a whizzed coin.

Examples tendered certainly look whizzed to me as well.
Much easier to confirm by examining in hand with a 10x loupe.
Fortunately, this is how TPGraders examine coins.

With a 10x loupe it is much easier to examine for surface metal disturbance (fine radial scratching), and pick the difference, between that and undisturbed radial mint luster on an MS(+) coin.

Bit harder for us, when looking at coins on screen.

Another reason why I always like to examine a coin in hand first, before deciding to buy.

I'm glad this topic generated so much conversation. I mostly shared this as an educational PSA. A year ago, this coin would have tricked me.
