@crazyb0 how are you able to tell its fake (other than the onvious price) like are the markings different? Sorry, I'm very novice

The detail is close-ish but there's several areas that look suspicious like the top of the hair and the eagle's breast, the denticles in particular are poorly done. The uneven wear would also be extremely unusual on a genuine coin.

Thecatsmeow- If you don't know what markers to look for or are unsure of authenticity, do a side by side comparison of your picture with that of a genuine coin. The pictures I posted came from the CCF "US Coin Facts" in the left hand column. As you can see on the Obverse of yours, the bust has a hair ribbon, the stars are in wrong location and there are numerous differences on the reverse such as font style.  |

Sorry, I was in a rush to make it to doc appt, now I sit and wait, lol! First off, any extremely rare coin that is found raw(not slabbed or attributed by a reputable firm must be suspect. Second, a weight check, size(dimensions) then check with a magnet... Check sources as PCGS website for this date coin. Now let's go to details. 1)grainy sandpaper texture is sign of cast metal 2)denticle(dots on rim) are missing and wrong 3) date is wrong placement 3)hair seems wrong and facial details off. There's many "Copies", and foreign knockoffs we refer to as counterfeits being pumped out by Chinese factories to the tune of 150,000 PER MONTH per factory! JimmyD is on the right track, to use a pic of a genuine piece for reference, but there is a different variety for 1795 that more closely matches the OP. It's this one: http://www.PCGScoinfacts.com/Coin/Detail/96858Edit to add: Etsy has many counterfeit pieces for sale on their site, and they do not seem to care about this. Its too bad these counterfeit coins are getting bought daily to newbie and the unsuspecting one's, but think of it as a learning curve if you or your boy friend are interested in getting into the hobby.
There are many fake coins besides this one, so I would suggest doing some research before buying. And buy from reputable dealers to start out with.

Welcome to the forum! Unfortunately you have a common found counterfeit that is found in vast quantities and is available from many less than legit sellers on the internet. Consider this a fairly inexpensive lesson. As said above this coin doesn't have much of the detail that you would find on an authentic 1795 Flowing Hair Silver Dollar, fakes will often appear flat due to this lack of detail and they often have a grey mushy appearance due to the casting technique on poorly done counterfeits. Real coins would be primarily made of silver your piece is undoubtedly not silver.

This is also a fake made from the well known "Vampire" hub. It has certain distinctive features. The counterfeiters used a genuine coin to create a hub and then ground the date off of it. They then used that hub to create a LOT of dies and punched different dates in them. You can find fakes of every date from 1795 to 1803 all from this same hub. But back then EVERY die was made by hand with all the stars and lettering punched in by hand so the positionings are different on every die.

Color and mushy details are characteristic of a Chinese fake. In the future I recommend you don't buy coins from Etsy. I see too many fakes for sale there for it to be a good place to buy coins. I know I'm going to sound harsh (jbuck, please don't beat me up  ) but ya get what ya pay for! Edited by SilverDollar2017
