I was looking through a pile of coins my dad had. I came across this one that I didn't understand.

Looks like PMD on the date.

Even if the missing part of the motto was caused by a Grease Filled Die, it does not carry a premium because of the condition of the coin.

@redgar' first welcome to CCF. Second, yes it looks like someone drilled partway through this coin at the date. Interesting to think about, but as an oddity rather than a coin of any numismatic value.

Thanks for the feedback -- I was guessing on the drill marks....and I know the condition is not great.

To CCF! It's a damaged coin. It's Post Strike Damage (it happened after it left the U.S. Mint).
