Looks more like some kind of acid rot to me.

Acid would not leave 3 layer south of the 9 of 1978.

Amac, what I'm looking at is the top of 7 seems to be eaten away. 9 shows some corrosion. Field around 8 shows corrosion. This shouldn't happen if lamination was missing was on blank planchet prior to striking. But I could be wrong.

Amac...It's corrosion. There are other spots along the rim at the motto that are also showing early signs of corrosion. It's not a lamination error of any kind.

When the surface of the coin corrodes, it can corrode in such a way that it looks like layering along the edge of the void on the surface.

The coin is what I call a One cent , cent...

Thanks,
Bill
