I'm guessing that this cent was used to bypass a fuse in an old fuse panel. The swirl in the middle was caused by the bad fuse being screwed onto it.
Here's an excerpt from a Wiki page:"One form of fuse box abuse was to put a penny in the socket, which defeated overcurrent protection and resulted in a dangerous condition. Such tampering will not be visible without full inspection of the fuse"
I agree with Crazyb0 & Coop. Looking at the reverse, it looks like glue sitting on top of the coin. Probably mounted on something. E & V Don't see anywhere that the metal has been pushed over and flattened, what area are you referring to?
