Thanks in advance! I am new to collecting and I'm hooked. I have what I believe is a 98 phantom D, Close AM penny. Can anyone confirm this?

to CCF fellow Michigander. Looks like a stain to me. Use the search box, upper left of page for phantom mint mark. There is such a thing, but not on your coin.

To CCF! The Close AM is normal for that year. What you want to look for is the Wide AM's on the 1998, 1999, and 2000 Philadelphia Lincoln Memorial Cents. The "Extra D" is actually a stain. http://www.lincolncentresource.com/wideams.html

to the forum!

It looks like a stain to me too.
The Wide AM is the rare one for 1998-2000.

Tip for the Day: If your wondering if the mint mark is missing or in a wrong spot on the post 1990 coins. They are all in the same spot because they are on the die. So if the anomoly is not if the usually spot for that year, it is just a stain. Also if it isn't raised above the fields, it is a stain. Hope this helps.
