I did not see anything about this posted anywhere, but it came in my email today. I always find the large hoards interesting. I wonder how many more are out there...

That's the last thing the depressed Morgan dollar market needs - more Morgans!

I don't collect Morgan's because of their commonality. I am more of a date and type collector and ill be happy to add a couple common MS-67 Morgan's to my set.

I hope their are tons of 67 and even 68. With strong strikes for several of those dates, they will be exceptional "common" beauties at reasonable prices.

An interesting story for sure, but I have my doubts about the claims of Jeff Garrett when he says that this wont negatively affect prices.
It sure seems like it would.
Rest in Peace

I think it will drop prices on everything from MS 63-67 for those dates.

Anytime I go to a show I'm already worried about accidentally tripping over a pile of TPG 1881-S in MS 65.

There aren't. There were a 118 67s and we will have to see what those look like since NGC has a reputation for being loser with hoard grades.

It won't have any impact. It's a drop in the bucket of what's already been graded for those dates. If it wasn't from the announcement no one would have even batted an eye at the population change

Does grading add any premium to their value, or just to their ebay marketability ?

64/65s and up yes. The few that were colorfully toned yes. And in the case of the hoard yes since it'll have the special label the prices have a decent chance to be a littler higher than they should because of people wanting a hoard coin. Plus yes they're a lot more liquid that way

With that many coins the grading fee is greatly reduced and easily recoverable

Hmmm is it worth getting one even with overseas shipping cost involved?

If you really like one of the coins sure. If you're just thinking the hoard makes it special and that interest will last, no I wouldn't chase one.

Meh... was discussed to death when it first was announced. Not going to be more than a blip.

What kind of liquor do you have to drink in order to look at 16,000 coins and properly grade them?

Do they have 2nd pair of eyes? third?

16K coins, even MS, wouldn't make a dent in the Morgan market unless they were concentrated in key dates.

Some of these coins have toning which rivals Battle Creek and Sunnywood/Simpson for sheer beauty and eye appeal. NGC released an e-mail today indicating that the date range is 1878-S to 1889. The 1878-S could be very interesting depending on which VAM(s) is/are inside that bag.
