Hi Coin Community!

Thank you for being so welcoming so far!

I have recently decided to start stacking precious metals and I have already fallen in love!

I purchased 53.5 ounces and 2 grams of gold yesterday from my local jewelry store for slightly below spot.

I purchased a gorgeous chunker 1992 Australian Kookaburra 10 oz which is

I also purchased 2 x 10 ounce "ASR" bars. Can anyone provide me with information on these? I could only find 1 thing and that was a completed listing for over $600 CDN

I also purchased 2 x 1 gram "Maplegrams" which despite the premiums, seem to be a great way to start collecting gold!

Let me know what ya'all think!

I also have 8 oz of silver en route and 1 gram of gold en route making my stack 61.5 oz of silver and 3 grams of gold!

Very cool and always a fun time when finding a new interest. I got those 1 gram maple gold pieces, they go for around $50 cad.

One thing I will say is to try your best to make sure all the items are real, magnet test and then reference the weight. There are a ton of fake stuff out there.

I have some stuff for sale, but your posts aren't at 50 yet. Hit me up once you do.

IF you have extra money on the side I would stack more PM, the premium for those low gram gold is high, I'd rather buy more older traditional collectible gold.

Getting silver for spot price is always a fun deal. Getting it lower than spot is even better (even if silver is falling downwards). Awesome find and a great start to your PM collection! :D

Like @macmercury, I favor the old gold from the circulating era pre-1933. they have a classic charm missing on the modern ones. Many are available at a negligible premium over bullion. Many of the austrian ones are restrikes, the ducats being close to 3 grams.

The best part of stocking up on PM is that it always goes back up again.

Hey guys! Thanks for your kind words! I should have clarified that I got the maplegrams slightly above spot but I don't plan on buying more at the premium price!

I felt that the price I got them for was the trend price but after searching up completed listings on ebay, I don't be buying any more unless I can get them for what I paid.

Can anyone ID the 10oz ASR bars? At this moment half my stack is an unlabeled bar that may not even be silver haha.

So my first skeptical thing I saw was that they both have the same id number 8105 and my search of Alaska Silver Refinery or ASR, I saw another bar with the same ID. Which I would think all bars should have different ID's.

I couldn't find any info on ASR as a known refinery.

My impression is they are fake.

I'm not sure I would jump into these being fake. I have 2 of these both with the same number as your picture. I'm not sure where your picture is from but it seems unlikely that my 2 bars are from an elderly investor and the picture on line are very similar. Maybe its a model ID or something. I will keep searching

If you're just starting to stack rule #1 is never buy unrecognized bars or rounds from anyone but a highly reputable dealer.

One goal of stacking is to have an asset that is very liquid. Buyers of unrecognized products take time to find. If genuine, bullion buyers in Canada will pay well below spot for bars like yours. Recognized bars can always be sold instantly for at least spot.
There is a very good chance that your bars are not .999. Stick with maples, eagles, junk silver coins etc. for now.

I took the advise of not owning generic bars.

I'm not new to bullion investing, I stacked back in 2012 and 2013 when silver was exponentially higher than it is now. I was taking a trip to southern Ontario and stopped at colonial acres. They offered me a straight trade for my two ASR bars. They must have done their own tests because they brought them to the back before making me an offer. They are genuine.

Thanks for all The tips!

That's good news. I would still love to hear some info on ASR and what happened to them and why the bars all have the same ID numbers...

I am also curious. When I head back out to Winnipeg I'm going to ask the dealer I purchased them from and see if he has any information on them.

Hi,

Bought a 10 oz ASR yesterday. Withe same number 8105. When I receive it next week I will test it with my PMV and tell you about the bar.

PS : I had an old username, but it does not work or want to reset. I did not participate because I use forums where I can sell and buy. And today I was seeking info about the bar and found your post !
