Fairly certain it is near but with this picture it is actually more difficult to determine. There is no need to zoom in nor should you crop out parts of the photo, the whole coin would have been much better. It's very easy to tell a near or a far by just how much rim is on the coin. A far leaf will visually look like it has a razor thin rim put beside one that is not. Also the 9 in the date is also another excellent marker. Remember whenever you look at a coin you always look at the whole coin so when asking for opinions you should always give whole coin pictures and any zoomed in parts are just extra bonus information to highlight areas of interest.

I agree with Talonbat but from what I can see,
it looks like a Near Maple Leaf.
Is it a SF or NSF? That will determine the value.

if I may ask how is the 9 in the date a marker I only ask because I have several 1953 nickles and am having difficulty determining near far variety as for this thread I see one of you said near and the other far very hard to determine in my opinion
