So I went to the bank yesterday and got 7 rolls (uncirculated) 1964 pennnies. It was so weird the rolls are tan colored and say "the first pennsylvania banking and trust co. philadelphia." I wonder how these rolls went around so long and were never opened :/.any thoughts? Any ideas what I should do with these rolls?
Rest in Peace

I would guess you have rolls that someone either mixed up with circulated rolls and cashed in or found out they are not worth very much and decided to cash them in instead of finding a buyer for them. I bought a roll 2 weeks ago for $1.25. So if the dealer is selling it for $1.25 think about what he pays for it. They esspecially are not worth alot if they are spotted. But there are some nice double dies so check out coppercoins.com and take a good look at them. Reguardless of how they got to you they are a good find. Congrats and let us know what you come across.

A few ideas:
1. I had a similar thing happen to me but it was only one roll, and the person that turned them in had them for a long time and did not think much about it.

2. Some kid was looking for spare cash and turned them in not knowing what they were.

3. Some banks do not turn all their cash assets over to other banks or headquarters, as long as the books even out the rolls could sit there for years. There are a few banks that still have old rolls around because of this and not having a bank audit on it.

I would consider yourself lucky, 7 rolls of a coin that is over 40 years old and there could be nice varieties in there as well. Most of the rolls I have bought go from $1-$5 a piece, I will pay for the higher roll if I do not have one or hope to find an error or variety of some type. If you collect them, keep them, if you do not, hold onto one or two and sell the rest. You picked up a roll for $.50 and can sell it for three times the price, looks like you could go back and buy more rolls.

I agree. Win-win situation. Not the lottery, but cool. No matter what, I would keep one just to jog your memory every once in awhile when you go through your stuff.
