Some people might say that this is just money grab or set milking, but not really.

I think for the first time RCM creates silver proof set of the circulation coins with addition of the medallion.
(1967 set similar idea but not exactly).

Might be next year the mint should think about Silver proof / reverse proof / spcimen (but not coloured) set of circulation coins with base metal medallion

Maybe I'll go the route of finding a dealer or ebay seller who broke up the set and is selling the pieces individually.

@Commems:
try to contact 'e-coins' - they usually separate the coins out of the sets and send for grading.

10-ounce silver coin of the Queen. When she was a princess in 1951. $999.99 (looks creepy)

On ebay now. Yes, very creepy.

Anyone else find this month's release to be totally "meh"?

Superman shield "coin" - been there, done that.

Four Seasons of the Maple Leaf - nice colors, but don't understand the re-use of the Hot Air Balloon planchet.

1KG Gold Pig - Does anyone actually purchase these large coins for $75,000? Personally, I'd rather buy an 90's Ferrari and add that to my collection of cars.

Canada's Historical Stamps Series - I'll admit... I ordered this one. If the photos reflect actual designs, this might be well executed. The target market is also large (stamp AND coin collectors). I am excited here!

2018 Canadian Circulation Collection - Neat, but this concept has already been done in many formats. The medallion is a nice touch, but I don't collect these sets.

Nocturnal by Nature: Cougar - A late addition to this party? Thought this series was done?

I'm finding it hard to spend my money with the RCM as of late. Mini-mints like Monarch Metals, Yeager's Poured Silver, and Beaver Bullion are producing some pretty compelling items - with substantially reduced premiums over spot.

@wanderingEskimo

I just received my advance notice this morning and I can say that the subscription for the Historical Stamp Series looks awesome. Nothing much else interests me but that justice league shield does look great but at that price? NO thanks.

My picks are:

Canada's Historical Stamps - 1 oz
10 oz. Pure Silver Coin - The Bronze Age of DC Comics
2018 Pure Silver Coloured 6-Coin Set with Medallion

If they come out with an affordable Pig Silver coin I'll get that as well.

Should be inexpensive 1/2oz coin to go along with the series.

And should be Round and Scalloped coins - after 3-5 years they probably will be very affordable.

TCS has 5oz Penny listed at $559.95, but currently is out of stock. The two on ebay at $559 have been sold.

Subscription not necessary.

@Looney4Numi

I am truly disturbed by the release of the 5 ounce 2018 big coin "Penny" to the general public. False advertising then from the very beginning whereby we were all "sold" on the fact that the "Penny" would only be available with the subscription of the 7 coin set. The only difference is that with the subscription, the 2018 5 ounce Penny will be shipped with the wooden box to place all the big coins released throughout 2018. I will never believe them again.

@New1954

I don't blame you for being disturbed by the mint's false advertising. I'm sure many others are, too.

If it's any comfort, CC&C has stated that the singles are rare (if we are to believe them):

"This coin was only offered at the original price as part of a seven coin subscription, and cannot be purchased from the Royal Canadian Mint as a single coin. With the lowest mintage and perhaps the most sought after denomination of the entire Big Coin series, we are pleased to make a few examples of this denomination available at only a modest premium above the original subscription issue price."

It will be interesting to see how many dealers next week actually offer this 5oz Penny. Currently there are two ebay listings for $698.88.

Hope someone is just breaking up their set by selling the penny, but the premium doesn't reflect the so called rarish one can conclude it's another RCM advertising miss truths.

When the Big Coins series started in 2015, was advertised by RCM, that "no singles will be available, only via subscription".

We all know, how it really was.
The singles weren't available through RCM, dealers had them enough to satisfy the demand.
If I remember correctly, really popular that time were Loonie and 50c piece.

Only available to VIP members. Now sold out. Managed to get one before they sold out.

That is a lie because if you go the RCM site, the 5 oz penny is listed as a single. Sold out though.

Yes, you can break up the set to sell the penny but it will be without the beauty box the single penny will come in.

Did the Mint hire film director Tim Burton as an engraver? That $100 beaver coin and the $100 Portrait of a Princess coins are pretty demonic. Can't imagine HRH's eyes really look like that on the actual coin.

And it might just be me but I also see an evil clown's face in Elizabeth's hair.

Just checked. You're right. I can't understand how CC&C can keep lying like this and expect anyone to trust them.

He must see us all as a bunch of suckers.

Miss State.

Miss Led.

Miss Truth.

Miss Represent.
