Large-17th-Cent-Japanese-Silver-Oban-264.9-Grams

I bought this years ago at a Public auction out of Ohio. It belonged to a Colonel in the US Army who passed away and his daughter sold the collection. I ran an x-ray analysis on this and the silver contains one of the uncommon rare earth elements. There were two other coins like this that were oblong. However, ANS could not determine if they were genuine. That mine was shut down in late 19th cent where the silver came from. Now it is a World Heritage site..Interesting enough the same rare earth is in the other two coins. Can anyone out there estimate current value? Ones that have been sold in last few years appear to be bogus.

The native term is kiri-gin; cut silver as these were usually hacked into small pieces as needed. Yours looks to be fully intact, and is of the utmost rarity. I would track down a few experts for more opinions; if genuine (and I have my doubts) this could easily be worth five or six figures.

Hey Finn235, thanks for the reply and the comment. This auction was not online really, I had to call the auction house and Be a phone bidder. In any case I had gut instinct on it I will upload the two other pieces that ANS could not completely authenticate..I ran x-ray on these..I have a Spectro-Xepos x-ray analyzer and got the same rare earth on them as well..i will send pics and the original ANS documents.

Thanks again for your time!
