Early-Japanese-Coin-Possible-Early-Or-Pre-19th-Century-Forgery

again the mine was shut down in 19th century therefore the latest it could be is 19th century..Having the uncommon rare earth in the silver alloy. The planchet was cast and the glyphs were struck with a die.

any additional info would help, value?

Not my area of expertise, but if this is a plated copy, then why couldn't it have been made last year in, for example China, and have a value of essentially zero? Or are you saying that the Japanese invented plating in the 6th Century AD and this is a contemporary counterfeit? Sorry to be a little snarky, but the first scenario seems more likely to me (again acknowledging that this isn't my area of expertise).

sorry because I truncated the data on this 3rd upload. Refer to my two other recent posts. That ANACS report is from 1985. I ran x-ray analysis on three Early Japanese coins that were purchased at auction a few years back.
in 1985 ANACS had examined all three coins determined 1 to be genuine, the second could not determine genuine or repro, the third is the recent upload determined to be a repro.. The x-ray indicated an uncommon trace element in all of them..The mine where the silver came from was shut down in the 19th century..It is obvious based on the xrf tests that they came from the same source of silver. Therefore, if this last one is a fake would have to be made in the 19th century when the mine was still open or period made and plated. Plating technology had been available in the Orient since 400BC Warring States period China..They put silver coating on bronze mirrors to make them shine and was a "Hot" process. They plated gold on Bronze belt buckles and the like. I don't know how strong the market would have been in the 19th century for such a coin. However, if made in the period a forgery and plated seems to me somebody could lose their Head..this piece is somewhat of an enigma.
